Im want to plan a ski trip but having trouble getting started…HELP PLEASE!?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

i wanna plan a ski trip for me and several friends in jan. but it just so much u have to look into….

we where thinking the pocanos?
or should we try colorado…vermont…canada?
we wanna arrive on a wed & leave on a sun…is that a good idea?
do we need ski lift tickets for everyday?
should we invest in ski/snowboarding lessons? how many?
is it better to find a hotel that is closer to the slopes?
what about ski rentals?
whats the average pricing for rentals, lift tickets, lessons ect?

any useful feedback is greatly appreciated!

Colorado hands down. I live in a ski town aout 1 1/2 hrs from Denver called Winter Park. Do not do east coast skiing b/c it sucks and is icy. So if you are learning, it blows. Colorado has powder when it snows, so it’s a lot of fun. Going during the weekday is better b/c all of the Denver ‘weekend warriers’ come up and crowd the mountain on the weekends. You need a ski pass each day you are skiing. The best thing to do is get a half day pass and go in the afternoon. If you are not used to skiing/boarding then going for a full day will leace you tired, bruised and battered and then you won’t go the rest of your trip. GET LESSONS. No choice, seriously — even if it is only the first day. After that, you will have an idea of what to do and you can get another one if needed. Rentals are el cheapo – maybe $15/day for snowboarding. Just rent the same ones for your whole stay. You don’t want to waste time standing in the ski shop. Also, rent from in town, not at the resort. Trust me. Don’t worry about staying close to the mountain, you will want to be in town anyway. Nothing goes on at night at the resort. Winter park has a Best Western that is fairly inexpensive or go through a vacation company and get a cool condo. Prices are about $70/day passes $45/half day.

What should I bring on my first skiing trip, in Canada?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Hi,

My husband and I are taking our first skiing trip ever, in Canada for a week. I have skied a bunch of times in high school but am still a beginner (now 31 yo) and my husband skied once, snowboarded a couple times. We are going to take some lessons in snowboarding which appeals more to us.

What should we bring on our vacation, and what should we expect?? We are coming from Boston, driving. We own no real ski gear and are not sure what to expect. How long does an average newbie couple last on bunny hills? Two hours at a time?

Suggestions appreciated! Thanks!! :-)

Take extra socks.

Passports.

Extra hats.

Thermals.
